driving around

In my thoughts, I noticed a similarity.

A pin or electrical contact of a chip is at first meaningless. Once meaning is applied to the pin, the design efforts are moved toward realizing that meaning. All of the necessary components and knowledge already exist. (philosophically thinking about microcontroller design)

A business is at first meaningless. Once meaning is applied to the business, the efforts are moved towards realizing that meaning. All of the necessary components and knowledge already exist. (reading through business success stories and business plans)

A life is at first meaningless. Once meaning is applied to the life, the efforts are moved towards realizing that meaning. All of the necessary components and knowledge already exist. (reading flow and creativity by mihalyi)

Where does that meaning come from? Perhaps it comes from some need. As with magnets, there are positive values and negative values. This provides a dual motivator and one is driven in a certain way. Philosophically, everyone wants to be happy. Then happiness is the force that drives towards positive values and away from negative values. Beliefs are then the metrics in which we gauge ourselves towards that drive.

EQ or emotional intelligence provides the meaning, values, and beliefs. These are learned and are malleable. IQ is the component and knowledge to realize that meaning. This is somewhat rigid.

To the extent of our IQ, we can realize our meanings provided by EQ. It has been shown that success and even greatness don't require huge amounts of IQ.

Just something for my head to think on some more. The personal question is which meaning shall I apply?
