of senses. I'm not exactly sure what senses are, so let's try the dictionary

"any of the faculties by which stimuli from outside or inside the body are received and felt, as the faculties of hearing, sight, smell, touch, taste, and equilibrium"

ok, the first thing that pops into my head is feedback loops or feedback circuitry. such in a manner that an entity is aware of it's surroundings and is able to adjust. like a robot that just doesn't move an arm 90 degrees, but a robot that can reach for an apple, regardless of where it in placed. and perhaps adjust for events like kicking the apple away just as it is about to grab it, it reacts and actually catches it in mid air

ok, so going back to senses. senses I guess are just things that are one way. they are detectors within the system. they don't seek out stuff. like you don't force smell onto something as you would to color it with paint.

also, sense is also internal, like sensing humor, or sensing hunger or love. senses are receptors. so then senses are inputs. simple as that.  also, senses are internal and external

so what then of output? the obviously part of output is to change the environment in some way. talking alters the sound waves in the air. output can also be something created internally, to be transmitted internally.
